What is GoFish?

GoFish is an internet video network. Anyone can watch them, and a free membership lets you create a profile and share videos. You can also create your own video collection by picking favorite videos and sharing them via email or embedding them in your blog or website.

What are tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. Uploaders tag their videos so people can find them more easily. They're basically categories that create themselves overnight. For example, you might tag a surf video you're uploading with "surfing," "water," and "waves." By searching for those words or clicking on those tags wherever they appear, surf video fans can find an afternoon's worth of videos with the click of a button.

How do I become a GoFish member?

Sign up in the Registering with GoFish section. It's free, and we don't ask for much information.

How do I view/edit my profile page?

All members get profile pages created for them automatically. To see yours once you've registered, click the My GoFish button near the top of any page. You can view or edit your profile there.

How can I find the most interesting videos on GoFish?

We built an easy search system and dynamic video listings, so there are several ways to find stuff:

How do I upload a video?

The upload feature on GoFish.com is no longer available.  Please come back to see the exciting new catalogue of content we'll be introducing in the near future.

How do I comment on a video?

Enter your comment on any video page in the text box near the bottom of the screen. You must be a GoFish member to comment on videos and chime in on other peoples' comments. Making your opinion known is what it's all about.

How do I rate a video?

After you've watched a video, you can rate it on a scale of one to five stars. This is yet another way to make yourself heard on GoFish, and helps everyone else find the best stuff.

What are user profiles?

Checking out profile pages lets you find member-chosen videos to watch right away, as well as later on. Favorite another user and you'll have easy access to all of their videos, past, present, and future. You can also watch their favorite videos and read their comments. To search for any user, use the normal search box, choosing People from the dropdown menu or go to the People page from our top navigation bar. And if you see a video you really like, we recommend clicking on the name to the right to access the profile page of the person who uploaded it (they probably have a bunch of other stuff you'd be into).

Why should I register to become a GoFish member?

Although non-members can watch any video on our site, becoming a GoFish member has benefits. You can build a personal profile page, create channels and comment on videos all for free!

How easy is registration?

We ask for a bare minimum of information, because we're all about easy. You pretty much just need an email address.

GoFish Video Guidelines

What types of video formats does GoFish support?

We accept a wide range of video file types:

Format File extension Known issues
MPEG .mpg, .mp4
Advanced Systems Format .asf
Windows Media Video .wmv
Audio Video Interleave .avi
QuickTime .mov You may have an issue if you have taken video with a digital camera or phone. Try converting to WMV or MPEG format before uploading.
3GP .3gp
RealMedia .rm RealMedia playlists use the same extension suffix as Real video. If the file is less than 50K, then it is likely a playlist. We only support conversion of .rm files that are Real video.

Note: We do not support conversion of audio-only files.

Why was my video deleted from the site?

GoFish reserves the right to decide whether content is appropriate and complies with our Terms of Use. GoFish may remove content and/or terminate a member's access for having uploaded inappropriate type of material in violation of the Terms of Service at any time, without prior notice and at its sole discretion.

What types of content would not be considered acceptable?

Although we accept a wide range of content, we can't take everything. The most common reasons for us to delete content are:

  • Pornography
  • Excessive nudity
  • Gratuitous/injurious violence
  • Playback problems
  • Copyright violations (view our policy)

Blogging/Embedding Videos

How do I put a video or channel on my blog or embed it in a web page?

Click on the Embed button below the viewing screen. You will be prompted to select from two options for embedding to your site with this screen:

Blog Embed Example

Embed this Video:

Paste the embed code by-hand into the page of the destination for the Video or Channel player. To post by hand, copy and paste the snippet of code into your blog or web page. Use the line of HTML code that is made available right above the Copy This Code button. GoFish has verified that the following blogs will support our videos and channels:

  • TypePad
  • LiveJournal
  • MySpace
  • WordPress
  • Blogger
  • MSN Spaces
  • MovableType

Post Directly to a Blog:

Automatically post the Video or Channel player to your other site. After selecting your site from the dropdown box, enter your username and password, and a description of the video or channel. This will work for accounts at these four sites:

  • Blogger
  • Live Journal
  • TypePad
  • Wordpress.com

Flagging Videos

Why flag a video?

You should flag a video if you want to let us know that there's something on the site that shouldn't be. Examples include:

  • Pornography
  • Excessive nudity
  • Gratuitous/injurious violence
  • Playback problems
  • Copyright violations (view our policy)

What happens after a video gets flagged?

Flagged videos are reviewed by our team and then may be removed from the site, depending on the video's content.

How do I flag a video?

To flag a video for any of these reasons, click the Flag This link under each video on our site. Make sure you write the reason in the comments field, so we know why you're flagging it.
